Hello Everyone Thanks to you all for contributing to the guestbook throughout January. It was good to see so many comments. Unfortunately, in trying to correct a technical problem with the guestbook I messed up and lost all of the entries. We'll have to take that as a trial run but please keep up the dialogue. If you haven't noticed, the gig list has been updated in the last few days with details of UK gigs in March & dates in Germany in early April. Message to Sheffield Billy re. Worthen Village Hall. Go to www.real-music.co.uk/Real-Music.htm & click on the link to the map. It looks like it's about 10 - 15 miles South-west of Shrewsbury. Regards - John Hodson

John, Sorry to hear the gremlins have been at work again. To maintain our campaign to get Roger Chapman & The Shortlist on to our TV screens I once again enclose the link to Jools Holland's Later website, address http://www.bbc.co.uk/later/ Can I urge all fans who have expressed disappointment at Roger's continued absence from our TV screens to visit this site and forward your request via the 'Contact Us' page. Obviously there are no guarantees, but there is no harm in us all trying. A new series of Later is planned in March which coincides with Chappo's UK Tour to promote the Family & Friends Box Set and new DVD. What better time to write. Best wishes, Andy Jago.

john. thanks for details re worthern gig, shropshire. most of you should have now received newsletter from sandy.the dvd release of family "from the vaults", is also available from keymail order in croydon. early february release date. apparently this features "previously unreleased" material from 1972, so your guess is as good as mine. however all news is good news at present. i get the feeling there is more support for chappo, at present than over the past 15 years or so. let's hope the extensive uk tour is well attended. thanks rog for arranging several saturday gigs, when the blades are in action!!!! (still, be nice and quiet for you).best wishes to all. c u on the road. - sheffield billy -30/1/03. I will yet again submit a request to Mr. Holland but as I said before I tried this for Wishbone Ash along with many fans but to no avail. I really don't know what the problem is with Jools ... we are talking about British rock institutions here for goodness sake. I'm listening to 'Wheels' as I write this ... magic. Billy, why do you torture yourself gaping at those red and white stripers? At least Chappo's team is going up. Bobby in Cape Town ... oh the sun is shining ...

It looks like Mr. Hodson, living a quiet life here in Somerset U.K., has let loose a monster - who the bloody hell has taught Billy how to use a computer? And then the 'Net? And now he's posting from work as well?? This is someone who, when I asked him to be godfather to the kids, started Italian classes, asked for pasta dishes with his mushy peas and began attacking horses. By the way Bill, the kids are 11 and 12 now and hope to see you before they marry. But enough of 'The Accountant'. I am pleased to see the 'Guestbook' up and running successfully - I was a 'sleeper' on the Strangeband list for years, and apart from a few notable threads (when the 'Playhouse' bootleg appeared) and contributors (Andy J for one), it seemed to limp along talking about how many times people had seen Family in shitty fields in 1968 with crap sound systems, or whether their sound suffered after Jim King left - for f**** sake, GET OUT MORE :-) (before anyone jumps in, I couldn't add much to a Family discussion - more a 'walkers and RC man myself). John - before the Guestbook crash, its success meant scrolling down 100 postings trying to find the last one you'd read - any chance of setting up a list with Yahoo! Groups or something, (http://groups.yahoo so we can choose to receive each posting or a digest every so often - like Strangeband? I'm on several for other artists that work well. Anyway (!), possible threads - the band needs a second guitarist - tell the tight sod to get his hand in his pocket and ring Geoff W. where is any new material - I'm not sure a cover of Blind W McTell will do (good though it is live) - I remember Toucan being introduced as a 'new song' for what, 7 years? the mighty Blades are going up, the pigs are going down, and we don't care about cricket so-called World Cups in S.Africa. I can now answer my own question. The Coal Exchange gig 21/3 is not at the Coal Exchange! It will be staged at an adjacent venue in Mount Stuart Square, called MS1 and tickets can be bought online @ www.ms1club.com Auf Wiedersehen Pet Ian

Sheffield Billy, Nice to know that Chappo is a fan of the ASH. I might actually be in the UK for a few weeks in FEB or MAR so I will take up the offer of a pint ... you are obviously paying ... can't afford it with my South African rands. If I can get over I will definitely get to one of the gigs. Hey Billy I stayed in Sheffield when I worked for the Midland Bank. Chappo, when the Filberts gain promotion you can have Peskey Heskey back and we'll take Mr. Tonge from the Bladerunners ... they won't be needing him. It's 5pm here in Cape Town and I'm off home to have a swim and an ice cold beer. Cheers ... Bobby ...

To Ian Thanks for finding out the revised venue for the Cardiff gig - I've updated the web site accordingly. To Richard & everyone else. Well, what do you think about setting up a Yahoo group? I tried something similar a year ago when I set up an EZboard account but hardly anyone used it. Maybe 'cos of the pesky pop-up ads. Maybe we can see how the guestbook develops over the next few weeks or so - I was planning anyway to break down the guestbook comments into monthly links so you don't end up with a very long page to scroll down. Any views? - John (living a quiet life in Somerset apparently) Hodson

Sheffield Billy do you remenber me, I took you to London to see Chappo at the Dominion many years ago, fellow Blade as yourself, still going week afer week. Missed you at the two Sheffield shows last year, you were there but I could not get over to you. Get in touch Stephen

Greetings from America! Yes, Chappo actually has fans here! I'm a big Family fan, I have all their albums, and I spend a good deal of free time posting comments about them all over the Internet telling my fellow Americans what a great band they were. Roger Chapman has one of those voices that is the very definition of rock and roll, and without him or Family, rock would be much duller. If anyone is interested, I have my own Family page, "A Family Affair - Reviews of Family Albums" at familylpreviews.blogpsot.com. It's a sipmle page of my opinions of Family LP's, nothing more. It's hardly the last word on the band, and there are better pages on the subject, to be sure, but it''s mine, and I'm proud of it! If I ever get to Europe, I hope to see Chappo live, and I hope I'm not the only American in the audience! :-) I'm looking forward to it, any way! Cheers!

Since setting up this site I've had loads of e-mails from the USA asking if Chappo will ever go over there to play. Such a prospect has always seemed unlikely - but maybe no more! There is a real prospect of Roger & The Shortlist going over to play 2 dates in New York City in late September. Watch this space......... John Hodson PS - I'll be deleting off-topic comments about football - unless they are in praise of Bristol City of course!

Whilst I can understand the behaviour & frustrations of people who support teams in the lower divisions (I support Newcastle - who will win the Premiership this year) I agree with Gary K. The Guestbook should be used primarily to discuss music in general and Chappo in particular. Anyone checking out the site for the first time could very well be turned off by some of the contributions. This will only serve to undermine the purpose of the web site - to promote the music of Roger Chapman. Regards, Michael Kay

GK and Michael Kay ... this site does a great job of promoting Roger Chapman and his music past and present. John has done a wonderful job (Bristol City?). I think you are missing the point though, this guestbook like other sites I contribute to is a good place to meet and discuss Chappo and his music and to share a few laughs with fellow 'walkers (even Billy the blade). Hello Trevor Gardiner (The Saints)), how are you china? The version of 'Holding the Compass' on the cd you sent me is marvellous. It's totally different from the version on 'Anyway' and the wife nearly crapped herself when she heard the opening verse of 'Drowned in Wine' as you predicted. Anyway, well done to Paul and 'The Lions' and CHAPPO I'm sure you will be watching 'The Foxes' at Anfield next year. Cheers from Bobby Cameron in Cape Town ... Oh yeh one last thing ... get a life guys ...

note to gk (whoever he is). this page is about bringing chappo fans together. if they choose to indicate their team, in order to introduce themselves, then what is the problem?. secondly, michael kay, some people may be "turned off" by some of the contributions. this will then "undermine" the purpose of the sight, to promote the music of roger chapman!!!!!! get real man! this is the whole idea of the site, for 'friends' who have possibly lost touch, to re-introduce themselves, and share a chappo tale or two, etc. totally agree with bobby from cape town (who i have never met), guestbook is not a closed shop for people who want to know what coloured underpants roger was wearing at hyde park in 1969. get a life chaps! c u on tour? doubt it, not allowed in newcastle, and this is obviously michael kays only venue.- sheffield billy -3/2/03.

Hello Steve Maginnis ... thanks for the reviews they make for an enjoyable read but you spelt the web address wrong it should read 'familylpreviews.blogspot.com'. Interesting that you think 'Fearless' is the best Family album. I can't choose between 'Dolls House' and 'Bandstand'. You say you haven't seen (scene?) Roger play live well I only managed to see him once in Glasgow on the farewell tour. What an evening. Sadly, having moved to South Africa in 1975 I have never seen him again. Anyway, I recommend that fellow strangebanders should check out Steve's comments. Oh yeh, Steve you know you are supposed to tell us what team you support china !!! Bobby in Cape Town.

GREAT GIG, WITH A 10 MIN VERSION OF "SOLDIER" THROWN IN FOR GOOD MEASURE. BRIAN JOHNSTONE ON KEYS IN THOSE DAYS. CAN U REMEMBER BIG BRIAN GALLIVAN?, (CHAPPO'S TOUR MANAGER)SADLY NO LONGER WITH US. Hello Sheffield Billy. Sincere apologies for any offence caused by my comments - that was not my intention. I think I'm getting old and grouchy. However, I have checked with my Partner, two ex-wives & four kids and they've all confirmed that I do have a life and I'm very 'real.' Also, I definitley enjoy a few pints and a laugh. You won't remember this but I even laughed when you p****d all over my left foot in the toilets of the Cellar Club in South Shields. (You staggered away muttering something about Daniel Day Lewis). Anyway, on a serious note, as I now stay in Sheffield every couple of months - where the hell are the decent pubs? Please let me know. Regards, Michael Kay

michael, referring to your note yesterday, here are some details of pubs (known as bubs in s,africa!)in sheffield. the best two are actually slap bang in the city centre. the 'bankers draft' is a huge wetherspoons boozer, on three floors overlooking the city. (next to the boardwalk). this has several guest beers, and serves food all day.bombadier, old speckled hen, landlord etc on offer at £1.09 per pint! the other pub is situated approx 5 mins walk from train stn. the 'rutland arms', regurlarly serves upwards of 6 guest beers. black sheep a speciality! this pub has a fantastic beer garden, and has received loads of awards in recent years from camra. withoudt doudt, the finest pub in yorkshire. nice people, great beer, and dare i say it, football friendly! hope this of use to you.anyway, back to the grind, before dave needham applies foe a job here!!!!!-sheffieldbilly - 4/3/03.

Hi folks. This information regarding the Family DVD. Received this morning from publisher (www.classicrockproductions.com). There's nothing on the website at the moment. "The Family DVD is due out end Feb beginning of March. The dvd is of 70's footage from central TV." Sounds OK!! Does anyone (Mr Jago??) actually know what this is?? Central TV??? Also, what is going on with the DVDs?? There's this one + Rockpalast + Shadow on the wall (is this the same as Rockpalast?) + Roger's Newcastle gig all due out in the next couple of months. Overload or what! Roger's date is March 19th at The Brook, our local venue and we're all looking forward to it here down in Sunny Southampton. Hi "Cape Town" Bobby, that Drowned in Wine opener is just a killer eh?! Cheers Trev

Big Brother here Billy, OK you win -I was having a bad day - but its only a yellow card offence not a straight red.Having spent the last 33 years trying to preach to the 'unwashed' about the main man I know how dissapointing it can be when anyone knocks anything to do with RC.(I promise i'm not making this up - my claim to fame in the 70's was that I had a wet next to chappo in Mothers on the night John Peel left his records on a train on the way to the gig). Hope we can declare a truce - what do I know about football anyway I've only had a season ticket at Molineux for 31 years - see you in the play off's. I'm off to the BUB - have a nice day.GK.

Oh yes, regarding Bobby's question as to what team I support - I dig soccer, which puts me in the minority on my side of the pond. I obviously can't keep up with English soccer (football), so I'll just come right out and say I back. . .the U.S. women's soccer team. (And the men too!) :-) Steven Maginnis P.S. By the way, Bobby, regarding Family's 'Music In a Doll's House' and 'Bandstand' - 'Doll's House' is an excellent debut, but I've always been hesitant to label anyone's debut album their best, because that implies that the artiste in question had nowhere to go but down. I love 'Doll's House' for its boldness, though, and for its many tremendous songs. My choice of 'Fearless' over 'Bandstand' is based on my contention that each song on 'Fearless' is superb, as well as the freewheeling arrangements - even a quick instrumental like "Crinkly Grin" shows a real, musicianly group at work! That's some of Family's most intricate music there! But 'Bandstand' still came fairly close. Thanks again for your kind comments on my page! - Steven Maginnis

Hello GK and MK. Don't you guys feel much better now that you've got that off your chest. Maybe when I'm over in a few weeks we can have a beer together with Billy in Sheffield but only if it is in Fulwood (Owls territory) where the good BUBS are. What is the official title of 'Good News Bad News'? At the Isle of Wight festival it is introduced as 'Bad News' (ex Trevor Gardiner's cd). Hi Mr. Maginnis in the states ... With regard to the news that the DVD of the Newcastle gig is to be released on Angel Air Records. Their website, www.angelair.co.uk is worthy of further investigation for some great music. In particular, CDs by the superb band Snafu. The albums are, 'All Funked Up' and 'Snafu/Situation Normal'(2CD). The band was formed by Micky Moody in 1973, Tim Hinkley was a member and Mel Collins plays on the studio recordings. Regards, Michael Kay

JOHN H. ANY MORE INFO ON N.Y.C. GIGS? WHERE IS INFO FROM? CAN U REMEMBER THIS 'RUMOUR' IN 1993, WHEN ROGER HAD APPARENTLY BEEN INVITED TO OPEN A STRING OF 'HARD ROCK CAFES' IN THE STATES? I REALLY HOPE THERE IS SOME FOUNDATION TO THIS RUMOUR. I THINK I MAY EVEN POSSIBLY MISS A FIRST TEAM GAME TO SEE CHAPPO IN N.Y.C.!!!REALLY CHEAP FLIGHTS AT PRESENT TO NEW YORK, SO ANY INFO AT ALL WILL BE REALLY WELCOME. TAKE CARE PAL. Hi Billy & everyone. The New York rumour comes from Chappo. It's pencilled into his timetable for the year which I get sent from time to time. As I understand it, his agent is actively looking to set up a couple of dates - clearly at this stage it can only be viewed as tentative. If it comes off then I would love to go as well.........John Hodson

Trevor Gardiner, great to hear from you again. Hope all is well along the southern coastline in sunny Southampton. My daughter now lives and works there too. I must tell all you Chappo fans that Trev was at the Chappo debut gig in Oxford way back in February 1979. Scootered all the way from his home in the pouring rain with his mate on the back to be there too. May see you at The Brook in March, Trev but more than likely will do the Cardiff gig on the Friday. Maybe even Bilston - unsure at present. In answer to your enquiry regards the Family DVD, I have been in contact with Classic Rock Productions and the details are as follows. ITS MAINLY MATERIAL FROM A PERFORMANCE FROM CONTINENTAL TV IN 1971. ITS A 30 MINUTE SHOW AND WILL RETAIL AT £9.99. TRACK LISTING IS DIM, PART OF THE LOAD, NO MULES FOOL, THE WEAVERS ANSWER PLUS GOOD NEWS-BAD NEWS FROM A UK PERFORMANCE. Hope that helps. Best wishes, Andy Jago, Brixham, Devon.

Pardon my Americanisms! :-) If Chappo himself has written in a possible New York date for September, then it's probably more than a rumor. I live across the river in northern New Jersey, so it's only a hop, skip, and a jump for me. Meanwhile, someone should look and see about getting Family inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! While on the subject of a Family DVD, it dawned on me last night that Dave Eames has in his possession nearly all the Family clippings ever filmed, some of which are master copies. These include TV appearances, TOTP, OGWT, interviews, films, festivals, etc. Imagine if all this material was edited onto DVD with the addition of present day interviews with Roger, Charlie, Rob, Poli and other surviving band members reminiscing about life in the band, the studio and on the road. It could be built around a documentary style history of the band covering their life in Leicester and London. I'm unsure about copyright problems, but certainly the material is available to put together an excellent 90 minutes or more programme. Such a project would certainly be a fitting tribute to an excellent band and would I'm sure be well received by fans everywhere. Whether the costs are justified or if Roger and Dave would be interested, I know not, but surely it must be worth serious consideration. Andy Jago.

andy, what are you trying to do! you will give dave eames a cardiac!!! his abode is more secure than fort knox!!!!!!!!only 2 people know the password to his chappo 'hideaway' passaage, the other being his wife for cleaning purposes. (his intention is to leave his 'treasure' to mackenzie when he kippers it. however, one can only summise poor mac's response upon becoming the proud owner of a complete load of bollox, to anyone who is not interested in chappo!!!) seriously, it's a grand idea, but i think we will leave it to you to liase with eamesy!.i can issue you with a list of well-known motorcycle stockists, who are currently running offers on crash-helmets!. also,i think i can remember the 'part of the load' clip used in the film, as having a world-war one theme within the back-drop, and poli palmer looking a right t**t in leather trousers! - sheffield billy. 7/2/03. p.s. good old palace, that put bobby (capetown) in his place i bet! Sheffield Billy, Glad to see that you are in a much happier frame of mind at the end of the week than you were at the beginning. I was creasing up inside and falling about on my chair reading your assessment of Dave's reaction regards my suggestion of the Family DVD. Great stuff. Enjoy your ale in The Banker's Draft after work. I'm off now to the Blue Anchor on the Brixham harbourside for a pint or two of Dartmoor real ale before I go home for a bit of fish pie! Cheers bud. See ya soon. Jages. PS For a guy with such a great personality you don't half fall out with a lot of people! It's good to see a sprinkling of Nationwide teams get this far - pity the Fox's dropped two points last night - can't see either of us clawing back the gap for an automatic place.Latest rumour around Leicester is that the administators recommended them to throw the game against us to guarentee last nights T.V. money - sorry but it you believe that bla bla bla. So it's drinks all round and up with the Blades and Wolves. (Gary the January cup defeat is a distant memory and all but forgotten. After all, blood is thicker than water). Sheffield Billy - Big Boy Blue - it's on order. Look after yourself pal. Regards, Michael K

Hi out there. Have been a passive visitor to this site since its inception and mainly use it as a way of finding out when Roger’s playing. Have finally got round to contributing. Anyway thought I’d wade into the discussions around the ‘new’ releases. As someone who first saw Family at Worthing Pier Pavillion just before Christmas in 1969 (my first ever gig – what a baptism of fire!) have got all the Family and Streetwalkers stuff and most Chappo stuff already. So what I’d really be interested in would be a whole CD of outtakes/rare stuff rather than having them spread across albums I’ve got already – and I expect quite a few of you feel the same way. What I’d really like to get hold of is some of the sessions that were recorded for the BBC. Do they still exist? I’ve still got some of them on reel to reel tape in mono recorded when Radio 1 was on 247 on the medium wave which was always plagued with interference on the evening shows. Particularly interesting are pre-album versions of ‘Save Some for Thee’ no brass, slower arrangement. ‘Seasons’ also slower with jangly musical box sound replaced with haunting Poli Palmer flute passage, Burning Bridges with predominant piano not on the album and of course another version of the wonderful No Mules Fool / Processions medley which was probably the main reason why I bought the boxed set. Will pop in again with to contribute some discussion on the BBC Family concert tapes. Bye for now – Andy T from Reading.

Welcome Andy T from Reading (although I'm sure sheffield Billy will have something to say about that 3-1 ... he he he ...). Looks like Southampton is the closest gig to Canterbury. Thanks to Trevor Gardiner for the offer, I will speak to you offline. It's a 3-hour trip and it's on a Wednesday night ... b-u-g-g-a-r. I will be dragging an unfortunate workmate along but I will try and lose him. Question ... How many "Speckled Hen's" can Sky Sports Billy down in one sitting? Answers on a postage stamp please !!!

Rory Gallagher ... my favourite guitarist Billy. Along with Family and Free in the late 60's and early 70's, it's all I listened to. Still got every LP on vinyl. He played on the Mike Batt 'Tarot Suite' record along with Chappo. Truly the greatest guitarist ever (that includes Hendrix and Clapton or whoever). You're making me cry now you b-u-g-g-a-r and I can't even have a speckled hen. Rory, gone but never forgotten. Latest result just in ... Billy, I'm surprised they let you across the Tamar into Bodmin and Pastyland to follow your beloved Bladerunners, let alone allow you out again after 23 pints of SH. Not even Family got that far west! The forthcoming DVD looks absolutely fabulous and I'm so pleased to hear that the extras, especially an interview with Roger, have been included. The track listing also looks superb and should have wide appeal with 5 Family favourites included. This highlights how difficult it must be for Chappo to select the songs for a live set, but change is necessary to avoid stagnation. I personally warm to Billy's sentiments, as I know others do, that we would still love to see the band perform Son of Red Moon and Slap Bang In The Middle (with their medleys), Higher Ground, Making The Same Mistakes and Unknown Soldier, but as Roger has said in the past, you can't play them all. I've also wondered what it would be like opening the set with Burlesque, and I still would like to see Helen Hardy back in the line-up as I know others would like to see the return of another guitarist. But at the end of the day, no matter what our thoughts, we all remain grateful and happy that he's still doing the business and knocking out some first class material. Have a great weekend. andy, and bobby boy. nice to hear from u chaps. i actually DID cry last night bob, watching the g man. his track was "walk on hot coals", and was cut a little short, due to the title credits.(can't fathom why they included a 10min set of A.W.B. or the wailers. when rory was in town.)still, i've got over 19 hours of the g man on video to treasure! by the way, andy, what a beautiful place that part of the country is. sat under the tamar bridge for 12 hours one day, watching the sun go down, from outside a quaint little boozer.we play truro city, bodmin town, hayle town, exeter city, torquay united, penzance etc, on a regular pre-season basis, due to warnock's previous spells down in the west country.i certainly agree with your helen hardy suggestion. however, i think commitments, and timimg problems ofter occur here. shame though, as roger had just started to give her a more 'hands on' approach, prior to her departure. the intro to "kiss..." being a prime example. don't think we'll ever see a second guitarist again. 61 years old now! (gotta 'slow down' some time). however, well said mate. we are extremely lucky chappo is still alive, and kickin', and turning out quality year in year out. how many other outfits can boast this? god bless rory, (miss u mate), but nice to know so many people still treasure memories of truly great artists. - have a nice w/end folks - sheffield billy.21/2/03.

Sir William of Sheffieldshire. Rumour has it that it takes 23 pints of Speckled Hen to fancy a woman from Bodmin, but the sign of a true man is whether you can satisfy her or not after such a large consumption. Hi again out there, I seem to have stirred up some debate with my talk of old Family stuff. Mark, I couldn’t agree more that we should be looking to the future. I too eagerly await a new album with the stripped down band. Indeed, I have always felt that Roger’s voice can work best on subtler, less heavy songs. I’ve often fancied that he should do an un-plugged tour and actually when I went down The Borderline in August 2000 that’s what I was expecting – especially as the listing in The Independent that day had it down simply as Roger Chapman/Steve Simpson! (Good gig though and I was made up hearing No Mules Fool again). However, my original input was prompted by the fact that a lot of old stuff is being re-released and that I’d rather see some of the nuggets that are sitting in the vaults of the BBC seeing the light of day. There’s a book I’ve got at home called ‘In Session Tonight’ by Ken someone or other, that charts the history of the BBC sessions. At the back it has a listing of every session recorded by every band and the date it went out in the period covered (an anorak’s delight!). Family did 19 sessions between 67 and 73. Each had three or usually four songs so that’s a lot of material. OK a number of songs were done several times and on the few of the later ones I’ve got have versions are very similar to what’s on the album – but there must be some interesting stuff there. Pre-album versions of the Dolls House songs, for example, must be worth an airing. And there’s one or two interesting Streetwalkers things as well. On my old reel to reel I’ve got the original line-up doing a great version of Lee Dorsey’s ‘Get Out Of My Like Woman’. Anyway I’m rambling now and still haven’t got onto the subject of the BBC concert recordings! Maybe next week. Andy T from Reading.

ANDY, U MAY BE MISSING THE POINT ON THE BACK CATALOGUE ISSUE. MYSTIC ARE PURELY RELEASING THESE AS PART OF THE CONTRACT. IF OLD NUGGETS WERE TO BE RELEASED THIS WOULD STIR UP A HORNETS NEST RE; ROYALTIES/COMMISSIONS/CONTRACTUAL MATTERS ETC,ETC,ETC. THE 'BONUS TRACKS' TO BE INCLUDED ON THE NEW RELEASES WILL BE THU USUAL B-SIDE BOLLOX ETC, IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE PRODUCT. MYSTIC AFTER ALL WANT TO MAKE MONEY FROM THE EXCERCISE, AND HAVE NO INTENTION, OF MAKING HARD WORK FOR THEMSELVES. I AM SURE, IF CHAPPO WANTED TO PURSUE THIS PASSAGE, HE WOULD HAVE DONE SO BY NOW, ON MORE PROMINENT LABELS, SUCH AS THE POLYDOR RELEASES. Hi Billy, No I wasn't expecting Mystic to this - it was just their re-releases that raised the issue. I agree there's all the contractual crap to overcome but it can be done - there's been Led Zep, Beatles, Only Ones, New Order BBC sessions CDs plus all the concert ones that Windsong put out. And they've already done some of the Family stuff so it could be done. Where there's a will.... Anyway I live in hope! Have a good weekend. Andy T

Rory Gallagher - "a courageously honest performer who wrote his own material and who considered the blues to be the most personal form of musical expression." (THE TIMES - obituary June 1995). Brilliant guitarist and great to see the Whistle Test recording again. Bobby in Cape Town - been in the vaults and found my old Taste albums, Taste & On The Boards. Also, recovered the solo albums. Visited Cork City a couple of years ago and stood in Rory Gallagher Place. (There's also a memorial sculpture to the memory of Rory). Cork City is a great place to get drunk. One bar I recommend is Fred Zeppelins. I knew it would be good when the taxi driver asked "do you really want to go in here?" Had to wait twenty minutes to get served as the bar staff were busy dealing with a 'disturbance.' Sheffield Billy - the Orange Juice is on me. Get well soon. Regards, Michael Kay

Hi Everyone Just picking up on a few points left the last few days: 1. Anthony Glynne - I've heard recently from Nick Pentelow that Ant is doing well but still undergoing treatment in the USA. To help continue to raise funds for his treatment some items are either up for auction on e-bay - or will be soon. These are: Fender Bullitt [limited edition] signed by Slash --- A framed 'photo/autograph montage specially made by Tony Keeley as a souvenir of the Ant benefit in July '02 with signatures of the participants.--- A rare acetate pressing of a Bad Company album donated by Tony Keeley. The Fender Bullitt is now up on e-bay - you can find it by going to www.ebay.co.uk & typing 'fender slash' in the search box. 2. One album many people would like to see released on CD is the original Chapman/Whitney Streetwalkers album. I've suggested this to Mystic & they will investigate the possibilities. 3. Billy's right about Henry Spinetti being on drums for the forthcoming tour, although if anyone is keen to see John Lingwood in action, I understand he will be doing the Swindon gig! Cheers - John Hodson

The first Streetwalkers album on CD would be a treat - especailly if some small label could release it here in the States. Streetwalkers stuff isn't much easier to find herethan Family CD's these days, but the 1974 disc was never even issued here - not to my knowledge, anyway. Chapman/Whitney 74 - well, I've never heard it of course, but I know better tha nto expect "the eighth Family album" or "Family Mark Two!" Billy - "Processions" is one of my favorites from "Entertainment" - reminds me of myself when I was little, though I daydreamed with Matchbox cars instead of toy boats! Very childlike song - similar attmepts from other prog rockers sound more child-ISH than childlike. Never heard Whitney sing it, but he has the right -it's his song, innit? Today would have been George Harrison's 60th birthday - sigh. . . . I listened to "Today" last night - I think George got his slide guitar riffs from that song! Nothing wrong with that, though! Hello from France, I ordered and paid the Roger Chapman box set in Mystic Records since November 2002 My bank account was output but I never received the box set. In spite of many complaints at Mystic Records, I did not always receive anything. I am a fan of Family and Roger Chapman since the beginnings and I would have liked to supplement my collection of albums, rather in a spirit of collector. This is why I am extremely disappointed. The mail order trading is always risky (mail order magic is always of topicality, isn't it Roger !) I wish you good luck if you take the risk.

Chappo couldn't hear anything through the monitors so he marched the band off stage. Fortunately they returned and proceeded to take the roof off), Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash. (Also saw the Average White Band but I won't mention that). Anyway - enough of this memory lane cobblers. For anyone who missed the result, Newcastle stuffed Bayer Leverkusen 3 - 1 (Again). Regards, Michael K

michael, thanks 4 the memories. some great bands.always thought nazareth were pretty sharp on stage though. (aerosmith big break supporting the'jocks') anyway, chappo marching the band off stage?. pretty tame really, usually trashed the place, and stuck a mic stand thro a monitor, if he had problems with the sound! followed by throwing water down the necks of the 'security' staff!....ahhh, great days indeed. ....."gotta get the 'walkers, out the way o' the train" - ps gk.u will c me at bilston. good venue, crap beer, but always packed solid. - billy 27/2/03.

More live Family from Mystic - yes, please! Four measly cuts on 'Anyway' just ISN'T enough. :-) Those performances certainly gave me a taste of what I missed. Steve 2/27/03
